Approach to care

Every patient who comes to see me is carrying a different story.

Some have been trying for months. Some for years. Some have been through treatment elsewhere and are looking for a fresh perspective. Some are planning ahead and want to understand their options before they need them.

The investigations I arrange are thorough and consistent. But what they mean, and what we do about them, depends entirely on your history, your body, your circumstances, and what matters most to you right now.

I look after couples experiencing fertility issues, single women, and same-sex couples. Whoever you are and however you’re building your family, I bring the same attention to your situation specifically, not a general approach applied to everyone.

My practice covers the full range of fertility medicine, but I have a particular focus on patients navigating complex diagnoses, including those facing fertility preservation decisions, those who have experienced recurrent IVF failure or recurrent miscarriage, and those who need a more integrated, multidisciplinary plan. Finding clarity after a long road is what I actually want to help with.

Credentials and training

I grew up in Melbourne and completed my medical training at Monash University, graduating with Honours (MBBS Hons) in 2004. I commenced specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, during which time I completed a Masters of Reproductive Medicine (MRMED) at the University of New South Wales, and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2014.

I then undertook a further three years of sub-specialised training in infertility medicine within the Reproductive Biology Unit at the Royal Women’s Hospital Melbourne, where I trained in IVF, reproductive endocrinology, advanced minimally invasive fertility surgery, andrology, and assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

In 2015, I was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Scholarship to undertake a PhD investigating uterine function following pelvic or total body radiation treatment, as well as endometrial receptivity and recurrent implantation failure. This research established me as a recognised expert in oncofertility in Australia.

Teaching and research remain central to my work. I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Clinical School Tutor at the University of Melbourne, and I sit on the Research Committee at the Royal Women’s Hospital. 

Your care journey

I consult from East Melbourne and Frankston on the Mornington Peninsula, and I also offer telehealth consultations for patients who are unable to attend in person. I hold appointments at Genea Melbourne City, Peninsula Private Hospital, and the Royal Women’s Hospital.

For fertility treatment, I work in partnership with Genea, one of Australia’s most established IVF laboratories with four decades of experience. Research

Research is an important part of how I practise. I have published widely in Australian and international peer reviewed journals and am a peer reviewer for numerous fertility, gynaecology and obstetrics journals and professional bodies.

My PhD investigated uterine function following radiotherapy, a condition I continue to research and treat in clinical practice. I have authored guidelines on uterine function assessment after radiation therapy, contributed to national and international conferences, and am part of the MRFF grant, the fertility preservation taskforce, and the ANZCO guideline development working group, aimed at improving oncofertility services across Australia. I have also written a textbook chapter on ovarian tissue grafting and am an invited speaker at ESHRE.

Fertility medicine moves quickly, and staying at the forefront of the evidence means my patients receive care that is current, considered, and grounded in the best available science.

Fertility preservation is one of my deepest clinical interests, and was the focus of my PhD research. When a patient is facing cancer treatment or another medical condition that may affect their fertility, time is often short, and the decisions are significant. I take a thorough, individualised approach by assessing what options are available, what the timing allows, and what plan best protects their future fertility. Helping someone hold onto the possibility of parenthood in the face of a serious diagnosis is one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

Every patient is different, so diagnosis is always the starting point. I use the latest imaging, hormone assessments, genetic screening, and semen analysis to understand what is happening for both partners before we discuss any treatment. Getting that picture right means we can create a plan that is genuinely targeted to your situation, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

It is one of the biggest misconceptions I come across – that infertility is primarily a female issue. Male factors contribute to around 30% of infertility cases on their own, and in another 30% of cases both partners are involved. I have a special interest in male fertility procedures, including Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) and Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE), and I assess both partners from the outset.

The emotional weight of fertility treatment is real and it is significant. I make sure every patient feels genuinely heard at each appointment – not just medically managed. That means taking the time to explain what is happening, being honest about what we know and do not know, and checking in on how patients are coping, not just how their cycle is progressing. I also work closely with counsellors who specialise in this area. Patients don’t navigate this journey alone.
